Kate Hudson will always put her kids first.

While chatting exclusively with PEOPLE about her new partnership with MyFitnessPal, a health and fitness tracker, the actress, 44, also opens up about the importance of making sure she is present for her three children at the end of each day.

"I am busy, I am really busy, but my day is done at 5:00 p.m., and I am in that kitchen making them something," Hudson says of her kids.

The mother of three shares daughter Rani Rose, 5, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa, son Bingham "Bing" Hawn, 12, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and 20-year-old son Ryder Robinson with ex-husband Chris Robinson.

Hudson explains that she makes sure her kids have a healthy relationship with food and often invites them to be around during dinner preparations.

"My kids' relationship to food is healthy because I get them in the kitchen. I get them chopping with me, we talk about what herbs are," she explains. "I think it's important to really get your kids involved in the things that you're doing."

Still, the Almost Famous star says that her busy lifestyle sometimes makes it hard to always spend time with her kids.

"It's hard to get it together when you are a working mom, and it was especially hard when I was a single mom," she says. "But at the end of the day, I want people to not put so much pressure on themselves."

Hudson welcomed her first child Ryder in 2004, followed by her second son Bingham in 2011. Her family grew once again in 2018, when she gave birth to her first daughter, Rani.

The star previously joked about the fact that each of her kids has a different father during an appearance on Sunday Today with Willie Geist. "I've got multiple dads, I've got kids all over the place," she said with a laugh at the time.

Hudson then spoke further about her relationship with her kids' three fathers in a November 2022 interview with The Sunday Times.

"It might not look traditional from the outside, but on the inside I feel like we're killing it," she said of co-parenting with the three men. "The unit that I've created with three children with three different fathers is a seriously strong unit, and it's ours."
